Roof Cleaning, Answered.

Why we soft wash rather than jet wash, and how long it actually lasts.

How much does roof cleaning cost?
£550–£750 for a small or semi-detached roof and £750–£1,100 for a large or detached one. Where scaffolding is required it is £650–£950 on top.
Is roof cleaning safe for my tiles?
Soft washing is. High-pressure jetting is not — it strips the granular surface off concrete tiles and takes years off their life, which is why we do not do it. The moss comes off either way; only one of those methods leaves the roof better than it found it.
Will the moss grow back?
Eventually, yes — it is a living thing and Kent is damp. A properly soft-washed roof typically stays clear for several years, and a biocide treatment extends that. Anyone promising it will never return is overselling.
Does moss actually damage a roof?
It holds water against the tiles, which matters in a freeze, and it sheds into the gutters and blocks them. On an older roof it can lift tiles at the edges. It is not an emergency, but it is not purely cosmetic either.
Can you clean render and walls as well?
Yes. Rendered and painted walls soft wash extremely well, and the before-and-after on a north-facing wall is usually the most dramatic thing we photograph.
Do you need access inside or scaffolding?
No access inside. Scaffolding depends on pitch and height — plenty of roofs we can treat without it, and where it is needed the cost is quoted separately rather than hidden in the price.
